The museum transports the visitor back to the 1830s when the building was known as the Mount Vernon Hotel, a popular country resort for New Yorkers seeking to escape the crowded city. The eight period rooms are furnished with 19th century decorative arts, and an Orientation Center features exhibits on New York history. Admission: $8 adults, $7 students/seniors, museum members and children under 12 free. Open: Tues.-Sun. 11 am - 4 pm; Tues. June & July till 9 pm. Closed on Mondays and during the month of August.
